Taste of Colorado -- Labor Day Weekend 2009

This is the weekend of the annual Taste of Colorado festival in the streets of downtown Denver, which Ed and I have attended many times over the years -- except, of course, over Labor Day weekend two years ago (although it was on our recommended list of fun things to do for wedding guests in town afterward). :) To summarize: Admission is free. One exchanges money for tickets (so that it's easy to forget you are spending $5 on a drink), and then you exchange your tickets for "tastes" or whole meals from the more than 50 Colorado restaurants participating. (Dad, you would absolutely love this festival -- nothing but fair food [and gourmet food] galore!)

Enjoying more than a taste...

Blanden attended last year, but he was far too young to taste, so this year was much more of an adventure. Today he discovered that he very much liked the free samples of peanut-butter-and-jelly Larabars (all-natural fruit and nut bars made here in Colorado) and Pink Passion Guava Eldorado vitamin water (less sugary than juice). But don't worry, we wouldn't take him to a food festival without letting him sample some junk too, specifically spicy Jamaican beef patties with Dad and an enormous Rice Krispie treat with Mom, his favorite of all.

Blanden, Looks like you had more fun today than grammy did! Good for you! Actually, you are having a very busy weekend little guy, what do you think the folks have up their sleeves for tomorrow? Plus, I heard that Dad has Tuesday off too, do you think he has a "boys club" activity in mind? Or, perhaps something that will include mommy too?

We had company over today to "swim" that's at least what Papa says, actually he was the only one who went in the pool, and that was for a very short time, bet if you'd have been here you would have kept him company. Just between us, I think your day was more fun than mine, I had to visit with the "big people", yes I know, I am a grown up too, but sometimes, that just isn't as much fun as you might think! Plus they stayed a really long time, and I was just waiting and waiting for them to leave, so I could start your priate custome! Any way, papa wants more company tomorrow, I said okay, but not for so long....grammy has things to do!

So you tried a number of new, interesting foods today, I was surprised that mommy and dad let you taste peanut butter...yum. As for rice krispie treats, I never have really thought they were so great, but I know your momma always did. Should we tell her that you can make those at home? What do you think?

Love,
grammy
