Little People Pool Party

When I and some of my oldest, dearest friends decided to have a pool party with our babies (six children between the ages of 9 mos. and 3 yrs., plus one baby-to-be), we weren't quite sure what to expect. We were certainly hopeful we would have fun. We all adore the water and are comfortable in it together -- we swam together in high school (and two of us in college), so surely they would enjoy swimming with one another too ... right?

Blanden likes to venture into the deep end to "jump" off the diving board.
He prefers to sit down, but he did ask to try letting his head go under just a little bit, "because when Papa jumps off, he goes all the way under."
All the little people, and the big people too.
 Enjoying our poolside picnic.
So cute to see the little ones lounging in their little chairs.
And then they were off and playing again.
A bird bath, do you think? Oh, no, not to these toddlers/preschoolers. It is a clearly a water table, and nearly as much fun as the pool.
And, inevitably, they began to wind down and seek out some quiet time. (They were discussing bugs.) Approximately four hours after everyone arrived, the babies went home happy and exhausted and the mommies were pleasantly surprised to find that it had been a fairly relaxed and, indeed, fun day. We got through the event with one scraped knee, one tipped toddler boat, and one bite (human, that is; mosquito bites were extra). I'd call it a success! Miss you all already. We might have to make this an annual event ...
