Back to the Beach

Today was our last full day in Michigan. Enjoying the waterfront is a treat for those of us who live in Colorado so we decided to spent the day back at the beach.

You may notice the very green water in the background, due to an influx of algae that drifts to different parts of the lake depending on the tide and winds on a particular day. Given that, we did not exactly swim today, but happy little boys (or big boys, as Papa pointed out) don't let such minor details interfere with an otherwise lovely day at the beach.
As far as Blanden was concerned, conditions were ideal for hanging out lakeside and building an awesome sand castle with Papa.
The little boys lounged around after our picnic lunch. Ellis spent the majority of the day on the sheets, but you would never have known that given how much sand he still managed to find to cover himself, his food, and the sheet with!
When we got back to the park, we asked Blanden if he wanted to try the slide again, this time with Mommy or Papa. At first he said no, but reiterated, "but when Blanden went last weekend I was very, very brave." We assured him that, yes, he was very brave and we were very proud of him, and that it was up to him if he wanted to go again...
It definitely scared him, but it must have intrigued him enough to want to try again, because here we are. :-)
We did it! (And now that I did it with him, I am even more amazed that he did it by himself on Friday. It was tall, the ladder to get up was tricky, the slide was slippery, and FAST! I can just about guarantee that Mommy would never have done this alone as a child, and I even had a few butterflies in my stomach as an adult. Wow, I am duly impressed, little one.)
Papa, Blanden, and Mommy went for a long walk on the beach to collect sea shells and ventured out onto some sandbars.
Ellis was much more content with quiet play back at home base with Grammy.
After the walk, Blanden and Papa decorated their castle with the "ah-normous" seashells Blanden found along the way. (Last week a popular word for Blanden was huge, but now we've moved on to enormous. I wonder if he picked that up after the first slide ride, because to reiterate, that was, indeed, enormous.)

Waiting patiently while we packed up our gear at the end of the afternoon.
Heading back. We've had a wonderful vacation and we will miss Grammy and Papa dearly, but we are very much looking forward to seeing Daddy and being back in our own home again all together as a family.
