We Fed the Giraffes

We had a nice, low-key, family-oriented Labor Day Weekend. A highlight for Mom and Dad was a date night out -- and Blanden and Ellis's first babysitter! A highlight for Blanden and Ellis was a trip to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs to feed the giraffes!

As you can imagine, Blanden LOVED it. He was unfazed by the their long, sticky tongues. He kept petting them and was delighted to be taking care of them. When we left, we told him to say good-bye to the giraffes and let them know we'll visit again next year for what may become an annual pilgrimage. He asked, "But the giraffes won't be alone, right? They have lots of family here so they can take care of each other." My sweet son. Yes,  indeed. They do have lots of a family, a large family (14 or so!) in fact, in addition to zookeepers. We assured him that the giraffes would be well cared for in his absence. After all, that is what families do for each other.

Ellis enjoyed the experience too. He feeds Belle and Ella quite nicely from the dinner table so we figured he could handle feeding the giraffes as well. Although he thought that if the crackers were good enough for the giraffes, they might well be good enough for him to try too.
