Playground Playtime

Before meeting our Wensuc family for brunch on Sunday, we took the opportunity to visit a wonderful playground nearby. We went once last summer, when Blanden was two and Ellis was tiny, not even two months old. Wow, what a difference one year makes! Last summer, Ellis was content to lie on a blanket in the shade of a nearby tree and watch; this fall, he can do the toddler slide almost all by himself. Last summer, I had to help Blanden climb the "mountain" of the giant slide; this fall, he ran up it on his own.

(I love this picture. It captures the essence of brotherhood: one adoring and eager to please, the other skeptical and eager to be left alone. Blanden often insists on "helping" his little brother, even when Ellis isn't quite sure he needs or wants the help -- and the roles flip-flop constantly.)
