First Day of School

Blanden trying out his music sticks before the first class

Music school, that is.

Blanden loves music. Ed is really good at making up songs for him, while I tend to sing him camp songs. :) So we decided to enroll Blanden in an infant music program -- a little headstart, perhaps, before he's old enough for Papa (Grandpa Raymond) to teach him how to play the piano and organ? It's a 30-week class over the fall and spring semester for babies from birth to age 16 months. Registration includes a CD of the songs we'll learn and even an instrument kit -- two wooden music sticks, a rattle, and a scarf (we have no idea yet how the scarf will be used, but we'll keep you posted). Today was the first day, so the my two guys spent some Boys' Club time together to check it out.

Unfortunately, Blanden cried most of the time.

Of course, when they got home, Blanden was all smiles with both of us, giggling and babbling away, acting as if he enjoyed the whole thing and was telling us all about it.

On the plus side, of the 10 babies in his class, in a what-a-small-world coincidence, Blanden has a friend already. Blanden and I took a Moms-and-Babes class at the hospital this summer (basically a support/discussion group for brand-new moms), and it turns out that one of the babies from our summer class, a little girl named Avery who is just two days older than Blanden, is in his music class.

And now Blanden is sound asleep in his sling, worn out from the experience. There's always next week.

Oh CUTE! :-) I had no idea what to expect from a baby music class, but it sounds really sweet. (Minus the crying, of course.) I love the picture from Grand Junction, too.

What a wonderful feeling to open up the mornings email and news to find "our" Blanden there! It certainly put a smile on my face and in my heart!
